Roots and Recipes

The dish I choose for my Root's and Recipe's is the dish bansue. Bansue is a Vietnamese dish that my family likes to make on special occasions, a family gathering, or just plain old dinner. (: This dish is very special to me, because it makes the whole family get involved by just preparing the food. The morning we make it, all the girls in the family like's to go to grocery shopping. By the time were done buying all the ingredients to make it the whole family is at our grandma's house. Everyone pitches in and help's each other prep the ingredients. Since most of my family here is Vietnamese, there's hardly anybody that talks Japanese. In the afternoon it's pretty hectic, we have all the little kids screaming and running around playing tag, the other people in our family yapping in Vietnamese and the kids in the middle helping out our grandma. By the time it's dinner time you could hear the sizzle of the meat and shrimp go into the hot pan with oil. Just the sound of that drives the whole family nuts. You could see the smoke when they open the lid and expose all the yummy goodness and smell the fishy scent of the delightful orange fish sauce lingering around the house. I'm just going to stop myself here because I wouldn't want to spoil everything just yet. And they person I would be interviewing for this dish is my grandma and auntie.

Hey Lina! I've never heard of Bansue. I like how you used alot of sensory details, such as how you described how it was hard making it due to the little kids running and screaming. Your dish seems very interesting and I will be looking forward to seeing your draft! :) Gookluck!

Heyylow(: sorry i took so long to post, but i read it, and I loved how you just described everything about the scene. I have never heard of or eaten Bansue, or for that fact any kind of Vietnamese food. That is unless, I actually have but don't know it. Lol Something I think you can work on is tell more maybe about your grandma who makes the dish & why it is especially special. Other than that I can see your essay is going to be very good quality & might make us drool.xD

Hi Lina,
Like your teammates, I enjoyed reading your "preview of coming attractions" :) I like the way you combine the actions of the family as they prepare the dish...should make for a great essay, and I'm looking forward to reading it!
